Exploring Wine

The world of wine is enormous, and growing larger each day as more regions emerge in both the old and new worlds, and as countries that have not historically produced wine experience economic development, finding themselves with disposable income and a thirst for wine.

Adding to the ever expanding global market is the apparent warming of the world, which has affected northern climates and offers the potential for many countries to grow vitis vinifera, where previously wine grapes would never have survived a long and brutal winter. How long this warming trend lasts remains to be seen, and while we doubt that wines from the Antarctic will be on shelves anytime soon, we could realistically see wines from Finland, Sweden and Scotland.

The more you begin to learn about wine, the more you realize that there is a mountain of information to digest and that it changes regularly. New Italian appellations are popping up every year, and many new world countries are just on the verge of mapping out new areas to take advantage of what their terroir has to offer.

What you can count on, however, is that there are thousands of excellent wines available to you in every different style from every different country, among which you are certain to find the one that really excites you. The good news is that even if you don't locate it right away, you still get to try many more until you do.

We have provided for you information to get you started on your journey, the basics you need to know to help you learn what to enjoy and how to enjoy it as much as possible.

Happy learning and happy tasting!
